About Alyssa
Hi! I’m Alyssa and, as a Science Communicator, I draw the natural world for people who want to learn and bring the healing powers of nature into their home and their lives. As an artist and an environmentalist, I am passionate about supporting and protecting the health and diversity of our world’s ecosystems through the use of art and education.
When you step into the quieter corners of the world and tune into the sights and sounds of nature, there is a powerful healing response as your body recalibrates.
Along with nature, I'm equally passionate about mental health and taking the necessary actions to heal from trauma. During the hardest chapters of my life, I've found solace by retreating to the fundamental elements of human existence: nature and art.
When I lost my best friend, Michelle, to suicide in early 2020, I turned to Meditative Art to process and release heavy emotions. As I worked through my own healing process, I decided to bring this transformative exercise to other people who could use this support during trying times.

Looking Inside Meditative Art Sessions
Wondering what's in store for you inside the Meditative Art series?
Check out these videos for a glimpse behind the scenes!
I am not an artist. Drawing, painting, anything of the sort is not comfortable or natural to me, outside of doodling flowers or silly faces in the margins of my notebook. However, when I came across Alyssa's meditative art sessions leading up to my 35th birthday, while in the middle of a pandemic, where I had to wear a mask for eight hours a day dealing with disgruntled customers and was dealing with chronic physical pain and fatigue, I knew how I wanted to celebrate my birthday. Our meditative art session was filled with a few beautiful familiar faces I love, a few tears, and what resulted was not only an unforgettable cherished experience, but a tangible object in my hands to remember it by, and a skill I had gained to re-use throughout the rest of the very challenging winter season. Not the skills of artistic talent. This is not an art class. Rather, the skill of letting go, of focusing on one line at a time, on not caring about the outcome but rather caring about being present and feeling into each stroke of the pen. Now, when I need grounding, when I need to feel close to nature but can't physically be with the trees, when I need to meditate but don't feel like closing my eyes, I can pull out my pen and my paper, put on my favorite relaxing music, and spend time with myself in a way that feels like a gift, and feels fun and soothing, not like a chore or a challenge. I am so looking forward to the on-demand sessions so I can have Alyssa with me whenever I need! Thank you for sharing your gift of vulnerability, inviting others to open up and release, and using a creative expression to work through our emotions, even when we don't exactly know what emotions are there or will come up. And that's okay!

What is Meditative Art and how will it benefit me?
Meditative Art is an exercise in healing and freeing yourself of the mental noise associated with anxiety, grief, trauma, depression, and stress. It's about stepping out of the darkness so you can step forward into healing. This course was born out of my own experience: After losing my best friend to suicide, I turned to art to process and release the overwhelming emotions I was carrying with me. I wholeheartedly believe in the power of art when navigating tough chapters in life, and I know that you will see the same positive results as I have.
-
What is the difference between Meditative Art and Art Therapy?
Meditative Art is art for mental well-being — it allows someone to process their emotions, shifting from how they currently feel to how they want to feel. Art Therapy, on the other hand, is done with a licensed therapist who works through art in a clinical setting. While both are effective ways of healing through art, Meditative Art can be done from the comfort of your home without a professional onsite.
-
Am I a good candidate for Meditative Art?
Anyone can benefit from meditative art, so that's a resounding YES! This course is especially helpful for those who experience anxiety, depression, stress, grief, and chronic pain. It serves as a way to quiet your mind through a creative but simple physical activity. My style of Meditative Art utilizes the healing power of nature, even when you can't access it. It's especially valuable for those who may not have access to the Great Outdoors due to chronic pain and disability — or simply for those living in urban areas. Embrace the peace of nature, no matter where you are.
-
What do I get in a Meditative Art package?
Every package includes access to Meditative Art training videos that will teach you to use simple strokes to create nature scenes filled with trees and mountains. You can choose between three videos, six videos, or nine videos — all of which fall into one of three categories: Release Stress + Anxiety; Navigate Grief, Fear, and Doubt; and Discover Joy + Happiness. Once you've purchased your course, you will gain immediate lifetime access to the videos so you can log in and get to drawing whenever you please. In addition to the meditative sessions, you will also receive one, two, or three drawing templates depending on which package you select. These templates allow you to release the pressure or stress around drawing, so you can lean into your flow.
-
Do I need art experience to participate?
Absolutely not! Meditative art is not about creating masterpieces to hang in your home or show off on social media (although, you are always welcome to do either!). The final illustration you create isn't the purpose of this type of exercise — it's simply a means to an end. What does matter is how you feel after each session and the mindset shift that you take away from it. In these sessions, we use simple drawing techniques like stippling and mark making to create art from easy, repetitive strokes that allow you to tune out the outside world and open up your heart to the healing process.
-
What kind of art tools do I need for these sessions?
You only need TWO things: something to draw with and something to draw on! You can pick your medium. Maybe you're a pen on recycled paper (like printer paper) type of person, or perhaps you prefer using colored pencils and your favorite notebook. You can use any household items, so you do not need to purchase fancy art tools (unless you would like to, of course). Remember: This is your journey — choose what feels most comfortable for you!
