What is an outdorker?
An Outdorker is someone who nerds out about all of the amazing ecology of the places they adventure, most likely carries with them a reference book or educational materials on the place they are adventuring, proudly identifies as a nature nerd, and loves nature puns!
They can usually be found searching for fungi, identifying birds, looking for insects, and seeking peace amongst the trees or along the waters edge.Â
Outdorkers are also the ones utilizing nature for its help with their mental well-being. Finding joy in the wonder and peace in the solitude and calm.

About Alyssa
Hi! I’m Alyssa and, as a Science Communicator, I draw the natural world for people who want to learn and bring nature into their home and their lives. As an artist and an environmentalist, I am passionate about supporting and protecting the health and diversity of our world’s ecosystems through the use of art and education.
When you step into the quieter corners of the world and tune into the sights and sounds of nature, there is a powerful healing response as your body recalibrates, but there is also a magical sense of wonder as you find hidden treasures like fungi, lichen, and insects.Â
For Outdorkers this love of wonder is paired with a drive to learn and understand what they are finding within these natural places. This is where I come in! The Outdorker Community is a space to connect with other like-minded people, a space that isn't specific to one type of nature exploration, and is a space to watch the natural world come to life through art. My hope and intention in sharing my love of the outdoors in this way is for us to connect on a deeper level and for you to have an opportunity to bring the nature you love so much into your home and life.
An Outdorker is a lover of the outdoors who geeks or nerds out learning about the places they recreate, who most likely carries a reference book or educational pamphlet while adventuring, loves nature puns, and is intentional with their time in nature seeking hidden treasures and the mental health benefits of nature.
An Outdorker can usually be found searching for fungi, identifying birds, and looking for insects or interesting rocks. We most definitely are the ones asking a million questions about the ecology of the region we are hiking in!
