I know. I see you dreaming of escape, but you only get as far as Instagram. You’re over there - scrolling in bed - trying not to be envious while you mutter in your head: “I wish I had that kind of life.”
Sitting in your office - notifications and alerts ringing - putting on a happy face for your colleagues and boss.
BUT YOU’RE HIDING YOUR STRESS & ANXIETY AND JUST TRYING TO FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT.
SPOILER: YOU’RE NOT GOING TO MAKE IT - NOT LIKE THAT.
WHAT WE REALLY NEED IN ORDER TO CLEAR OUR MINDS - IS SILENCE.
The kind of silence where you can just hear the breeze rustling the leaves and raindrops hitting the gutter. A silence that leaves you feeling a sense of calm, relief and real peace - where your mind can wander into a bubbling stream of thoughts - until you get that lightbulb moment of inspiration and clarity.
A moment for your mind to stop building another to do list. No pings. No phones ringing, or kids screaming.
JUST SILENCE.
You can only find this kind of peace when you’re surrounded by nothing but trees and skies and a wandering trail.
I feel the most connected to the world around me when I am completely alone in the woods, & that connection is something we all need. It’s attainable, but it’s so completely rare these days.
I believe we can make a difference in our lives and the lives of others by getting outside, learning about nature, and being conscious consumers. Understanding and experiencing the natural world around us makes us happier and healthier people, and that brings more joy into the world.
I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE IF WE ALL SPENT MORE TIME IN THE MUD.
This is why I started Drawn to Ecology, to bring the places we love to recreate in + find solace, into our homes.
To connect us to memories of adventures and meaningful places, in a sustainable way.
About Alyssa
Hi! I’m Alyssa and, as a Science Communicator, I draw the natural world for people who want to learn and bring the healing powers of nature into their home and their lives. As an artist and an environmentalist, I am passionate about supporting and protecting the health and diversity of our world’s ecosystems through the use of art and education.
When you step into the quieter corners of the world and tune into the sights and sounds of nature, there is a powerful healing response as your body recalibrates.
Along with nature, I'm equally passionate about mental health and taking the necessary actions to heal from trauma. During the hardest chapters of my life, I've found solace by retreating to the fundamental elements of human existence: nature and art.
When I lost my best friend, Michelle, to suicide in early 2020, I turned to Meditative Art to process and release heavy emotions. As I worked through my own healing process, I decided to bring this transformative exercise to other people who could use this support during trying times.
